Vigour of bringing life to desert was only in one heart

Sitting leanly on a couch and blaming others for the destruction of the environment is one thin. Whereas, standing up and taking the rein in hands is other! Something like this has happened in the Majoli river island, in Brahmaputra River, Assam. A man was triumphant in bringing life to desert all by his own.

Jadan ‘Molai’ Payeng, an environmental activist, did something that we the so-called educated-young-patriotic people cannot even think about. HE PLANTED A FOREST!

Age is just a number!

One day in 1979, a 16-year-old boy saw hundreds of snakes died because of wanton heat and unavailability of trees under which they could find shelter. He was shaken from inside and immediately made a promise to stake his life for the good of our planet.

Bringing life to the desert

After that incident, he joined a five-year plan of planting trees in that area and kept on doing the same work even after completion of the project. He planted trees and nurtured them with all his might for about 40 years of his life. His mettle efforts for bringing life to desert transformed the area completely. And now it is a habitat of thousands of wild species.

The forest man of India-

Authorities came to know about his good deeds in 2008. Eventually, he was felicitated with many awards and finally got ‘The Padma Shri’ award in 2015. The forest he planted was named ‘Molai’ forest after his name, which now is home to tigers, rhinoceros, elephants and rabbits.

This is the story of a man who spent 40 years of his life just for saving our planet. He started his journey with 20 bamboo trees and ended up growing a forest. This is an outstanding example of a person’s unmatchable love towards the environment and our planet. His 40 years of hard work had such colossal effects that the fate of land was completely changed.

Thinking for others more than ourselves and doing something selflessly just for the good of humanity, is heard only in books till now. But this man has proved that earth really has one saviour who believes in taking the very first step. He had the guts to walk on a tough path all alone just for bringing life to desert
