Huawei Honor 9i Review – Should You Avoid It?

The mid-range phone market is probably the one that is most crowded now. Nobody wants to miss the huge spending potential of India. With almost everyone having a credit card, and with all the card issuers offering easy EMI schemes, buying a phone in the 15 – 20K range is not a big thing.

With so many varieties available the mobile phone user is really running here and there finding the best buy.

HUAWEI HONOR 9i

This new phone comes packed with a punch. The company is no stranger to the Indian market. With many of their other products already available in India for many years, the company has built a reputation for itself.

The Honor brand of mobile phones themselves is available in the market long enough for users to know its quality and durability. Though the Honor 9i was launched in October 2017, it still holds a good position among the mid-range smartphones in India.

WHAT’S IN IT?

The Honor 9i stands out with a huge 5.90-inch screen. The HD+ resolution display is a full-view display. Due to the extremely small bezels, the screen size has not affected the overall phone size which is smaller than some of the 5.5-inch screen phones.

The display has an 18:9 aspect ratio which provides for the crisp and clear viewing experience. The display is covered with a 2.5-D glass.

The phone comes with a powerful 2.36 Octa-core Kirin 659 processor. In the case of speed and power, this processor is equal to the Snapdragon 625 processor. For you, it means that all multitasking activities will be done swiftly without any lag.

4GB of RAM is backed by a good 64 GB internal memory. This is good enough for most of our activity including gaming. But, just in case, you are only comfortable with a three-digit storage figure, the memory is expandable up to 256 GB with a Micro SD card.

What the Honor 9i does best is take pictures. The phone comes with a dual primary camera which is 16 MP plus 2 MP. The front camera is 13 MP plus 2 MP. Both the cameras give a good bokeh effect. Both the cameras come with an RGB sensor and monochrome sensor. The effect of both cameras is very good. Both cameras capture portraits with the image in sharp focus and background blurred.

The fingerprint sensor is placed just beneath the primary camera. The sensor is fast and sensitive and will be no problem in unlocking the phone.

The Honor 9i uses an Android 7.0 Nougat based skin for running. The EMUI 5.1 is a good software that comes with some additional features.

The battery in the phone is mAh 3340 which is pretty good enough for a day’s normal usage.

THE VERDICT

The Honor 9i is a phone that has features that are seen in many higher model phones. The cameras and the display keep this phone in an envious position.

The only negative we found that it still runs on Android 7.0 Nougat.
