Chronic Kidney Disease and Polycystic Kidney Diseases often go to serious conditions because patients do not even realize that they are getting worse. It is really important to recognize the symptoms of kidney problems so that you can actually prevent a lot of problems in future. Dave Edwards, professor in UD’s Department of Kinesiology and Applied Physiology said: ” Understanding the symptoms of CKD and taking proper medications can help one to have a completely healthy life”.

If you experience any of these symptoms, you should immediately consult a doctor since he is the only person who can provide you the best diagnosis. Some of the kidney problem symptoms may be related to some other health condition also and that’s the reason why most of the doctors ask for a blood and urine test immediately.

Now it’s time to know about the symptoms of kidney problems-

Frequent urination

If you experience any changes in urination in terms of frequency, color, and appearance, you should be alarmed and it needs to be taken care of seriously. The kidney makes urine to eliminate all the waste from the human body and that’s why you should carefully check any change. The changes include the frequent number of urination or urinating in greater amounts, the presence of blood in urine or having foamy or bubbly urine etc. Patients with kidney problems often experience a strong pressure on the bladder and this is what makes them urinating hard.

Feeling of pain in legs, back and sides

Patients who suffer from kidney diseases, often feel a lingering pain in the legs, upper back, and sides where the kidneys are mainly found. Polycystic Kidney Disease of PKD often produces cysts on the kidneys and liver and this results in so excruciating pain which is often compared with labor pain.

Ammonia breath

Bad breath is an alarming sign which indicates that something is wrong with the system. A lot of patients have reported of having ammonia breath. Doesn’t it sound weird? Well, the excess amount of waste bi-products in the bloodstream of a patient with kidney problems cause this particular bad breath which smells like ammonia. This also affects the taste and eventually resulting in loss of appetite.

Nausea

Constant feelings of nausea and vomiting are mainly caused by the toxicity and that’s why a lot of people with kidney problems often experience weight loss and lack of appetite.

Swelling

Due to the problem in kidney, the excess fluid in the body pool results in swelling in the face, legs, hands, ankles, and feet and when the condition is really bad, the patients are unable to wear their shoes or rings.

Acne and skin rash problems

The stored waste in the bloodstream causes acne breakouts, rashes, and severe itching. The excess amount of toxicity mainly appears on the skin first.

Constant feeling of tiredness

Tired muscles and overall fatigue are experienced by the patients with kidney problems. The kidney failure produces very less amount of erythropoietin hormone (EPO) which commands the oxygen-carrying red blood cells to energize the muscles and brain.

Reduced production of EPO also causes anemia or decrease in red blood cells and it makes the patients feel cold.
