BEST MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND GETAWAYS FROM ATLANTA

The start of summer is marked by the proximity of Memorial Day and that weekend before the remembrance date is a perfect to take a break from routine and escape from the daily stress that a city like Atlanta can provide for its inhabitants or just simply for those who want to spend a different time out of their hometowns.

Whether a local from Atlanta or a visitor, there are plenty of places and activities taking place around Atlanta and in the following lines, some of them are going to be mentioned.

Once in the city, head to Columbus in order to challenge the rapids of the Chattahoochee River during the day while children and other family members afraid of the rapids can have a great time in the splash mountain. Close the day by having a great meal and prepare for a visit to the Columbus Museum the following day or ride a bike along the Riverwalk.

Another activity that should be included is the visit to the Six Flags Park in Atlanta where a ride in the first virtual reality roller coaster of North America is expecting visitors. In this attraction by wearing goggles the roller coaster turns into an alien battle in a city far away in the future. Other amusement parks offer brand new attractions like meeting life-sized dinosaurs at Wild Adventures or jumping at Stone Mountain Park.

Traditionally, Memorial Day weekend is taken for a beach trip and close to Atlanta there are several sandy beaches that can be enjoyed. While at St. Simons, take a time away from the water and sand and climb the 129 steps to the top of the island lighthouse for a breathtaking view of the place. Take the time to learn a little bit about military history with a stop at Fort Frederica National Museum and later relax eating popcorn on the deck at Brogen’s while watching all the movement around the pier.

Close the day by spending the night at a rented houseboat on Lake Lanier and then have a great time with the different activities once you arrived to the Lake Islands Resort like kayaking, golf, horseback riding, zip-lining, and playing at the LanierWorld water park.
