One of the most famous cities in the United States for the celebration of Memorial Day is the city of Chicago and practically other parts surrounding the city or at a close distance.

In the most populated city of the Illinois State, Chicago, the celebration of the Memorial Day weekend is principally marked by the Parade and posterior wreath-lying ceremony at Daley Plaza. Also, the fireworks displayed at Navy Pier along with the Belmont-Sheffield Music Festival are two of most important events taking place in the city of winds. Once in Chicago, a visit to one of the many beaches along the lakefront is highly advisable during the weekend. Visiting downtown is necessary to give a try to the Lurie Garden in the Millennium Park in order to get some photos or go to the Chicago Botanic Garden to take a look at the Butterflies and Blooms exhibit.

After staying for a while in Chicago, head to Aurora in order to attend the Memorial Day viewings and after that go to the front of the David L. Pierce Art and History Center or immerse in the Aurora amazing weather conditions and enjoy a picnic at Mundy Park at Water Street Mall. Experience an outdoor musical performance at River Edge Park as part of the weekend celebration. Other outdoor activities that can be enjoy in the area are the bicycle riding along the Fox River Trail heading north to New York Street to get a kayak into the river and enjoy a fantastic and unusual view of the place.

Meanwhile, the Capital of the State, Springfield, offers historical sites for commemorating veterans like no other city in Illinois. Events at the Camp Butler National Cemetery and the Air Combat Museums are the highlight of the Memorial Day weekend celebration. Besides, observation of the nature and working out activities (hiking) are part of the activities that can be done during the weekend; for example, visiting the Adams Wildlife Sanctuary can be done in order to photograph native animals or birds in the region or go to the Carpenter Park to hike around the area and observe the flora and fauna in it.
