Best New York City (NYC) Events Memorial Day Weekend 2018

Celebrate Memorial Day in New York

Almost certainly you will not travel to New York specifically on this date to celebrate this holiday, but May is a good month to travel to NY when the weather is very warm and summer life begins to appear. If you agree that you are going to be in the Big Apple the last weekend of May take note of everything you can do:

  • Attend the Memorial Day Parade

In the 5 boroughs of New York City parades are celebrated in honor of the fallen heroes. The Queens parade is the longest and busiest while in Brooklyn one of the oldest is held. In Staten Island and the Bronx there are also parades during Memorial Day.

  • Enjoy a good picnic in a NYC park

Take advantage of the good weather and enjoy the parks of New York, real oases in the middle of the city. To celebrate Memorial Day in New York, take your picnic or even rent a bicycle and enjoy a different day.

  • Escape to a beach

Welcome summer to one of the beaches near the city. My favorite: Coney Island, in Brooklyn. Although there are many more: Orchard Beach, the only public beach in the Bronx, Manhattan Beach, Rockaway Beach in Queens, famous thanks to the song of the Ramones and the ideal place to surf.

  • Visit some representative monument

There are several places that pay tribute to all those who fought for the United States of America during the Memorial Day in New York. Visit the Tomb at Ulysses S. Grant, the American Veterans Memorial Pier in Brooklyn, the Green-Wood Cemetery or the Intrepid Sea and Space Museum.

  • Listen to the New York Philharmonic Free

The New York Philharmonic offers the Free Annual Memorial Day Concert each year at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. The Memorial Day concert in New York starts at 8pm and tickets cannot be booked, so I recommend that you go with time to be the first to enter when the doors open after 6pm.
