Locating an address in Bangalore can sometimes be a tedious job. But thanks to the seven digit identification number system issued by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which will make the task a lot easier now. On Thursday the BBMP launched a digital door numbering system called DiGi7. Through this system, it will provide a unique seven digit identification number to all properties in Bangalore.
The system will function on the basis of GIS-Enabled Property Tax Information System (GEPTIS). Under this, a database will be created that will map all the properties that come under the BBMP limit including the details of the property like their location and road and ward number. The launching of DiGi7 will also replace the conventional address of the property. The seekers will be able to locate the property using DiGi7. It will help in navigation and other allied services. Regarding the new digitalised system, the civic body has claimed that DiGi7 will also help in help in receiving complaints and building plans and utility services from the citizens.
KJ George the Bengaluru In-Charge minister of DiGi7 said that the launch of this system will help in quick identification of the locations and addresses. An official in his statement stated that “If one looks at the current map, the city’s roads look more of a maze due to unplanned and haphazard growth. However, the new system will make the process of navigation to specific addresses easier and better. These kinds of ‘digital addressing’ are available at cities like London and New York.”
To avail the benefits of the system you can install the DiGi7 app and register on it using your mobile number. When you open the app you can see the properties displayed according to the unique seven digit identification number assigned to them. Othe way f getting DiGi7 is calling the BBMP call centre at 2266000. You can also access digital numbers at BBMP ward offices or BBMP website (bbmp.gov.in).
Ways in which the DiGi7 system can be useful is, it will replace the conventional address of the property. It will easier and faster to locate an address. The property owners can display the unique seven digit identification number in a prominent place on their property. It will also become easier to report grievance and use services like building plans and utility services.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), has requested the property owners o share their identification numbers with other, to make the process more convenient and functional. It also said that the property owners can also share their identification numbers, through whats and SMS, using a short URL.
