Does Drinking Too Much Water Cause Kidney Pain

It is well known that one should drink at least 8 glasses of water a day so that they can keep their body hydrated. As human body is mainly made up of water and it loses water on regular basis it is important to replenish it with enough water. When humans sweats, urinate they lose water and if this water is not replenished then dehydration may be dangerous.

However, one should be careful while drinking water, this is because drinking too much water can even put pressure on kidneys and may even be very harmful.

How kidney functions

Kidney plays a vital role in keeping the body balance and maintaining its health. This organ is responsible for filtering the excess water from human body and remove the waste products too. Excess water and urine is expelled through urine. When kidney do not perform properly waste products will not be removed from the blood.

Moreover, blood requires certain amount of salt and drinking too much water may dilute the blood. Thus, drinking too much water at a quick pace may stop kidney from functioning properly. When kidney will not filter the blood then the waste products will get accumulated in the body. Due to this condition there will be symptoms like fatigue, vomiting, nausea, and frequent urination. If not taken care in time it may even be fatal.

When kidney has to function more there can be problem in the kidney and sometimes it may lead to kidney pain. Thus, drinking water is good but drinking too much water is not good for kidney health.

How much water should be consumed?

There are different opinion about how much water should be consumed so that one feels good and do not pressurize kidney. The normal norm of 8 glasses of 8 ounce water per day is fit for those people who are living in extreme hot conditions and sweating regularly and for athletes. For other people drinking 64 ounces of water is not necessary at all. Actually when someone is eating food then too they are in taking some water and every food has some water content. Many people think that when if they are feeling thirsty that means that there body is dehydrated. This is not the fact. Body feels thirsty when it needs water, it asks for water much before it starts dehydrating. Thus, thirst has nothing to do with dehydration.

Thus, most journal and studies suggests that one should drink water only when they feel thirsty. Following the guideline of drinking 8 glasses of water may not be necessary. The color of urine is also a good indicator that whether one needs to drink water or not. Actually human body keeps on giving signs about its requirement for water.

Drinking water is good but when too much water is consumed it unnecessary puts pressure on the kidneys. It makes then work more and that may lead to pain or sometimes become more fatal. Thus, drink that much water that is required to keep the body hydrated.
