Many colleges have begun admitting students for undergraduate courses and pre-university courses in the state without the final results being announced. Around 7 lakhs students for the PUC exams in March, 2018 and offers two year courses broadly classified under Humanities, Science and Commerce. Some colleges are enrolling students who have secured 90% and above in SSLC prep exams. Earlier in March, 2018 the Ministry for Primary and Secondary Education had stated that the results for the PUC will be given by the end of April, 2018. After the results for PUC are given out supplementary exams are to be held on May, 2018.
The PUC results are to declared on 30th April after which the SSLC results will be out tentatively by 7th May and for CBSE on 28th May, with some parents and students having already securing seats by paying 60% of the annual fees for PU courses, though the entire process has been stated to be illegal by the Department of Pre-University Education who vow to take strict action against such institutions giving admission much before the results are to be out and it has been advised that parents or students should not hesitate to come ahead with complaints regarding such malpractices. But it was additionally stated that with regard to government PU colleges the mechanism of early admissions seemed feasible wherein the classes are to begin from 14th May for IPU.
For absence of SSLC exams the marks scored previously in model exams are taken into account for advanced admissions. However the department has advised parents to understand the legalities of such advanced admissions before getting caught up in legal hurdles unnecessarily.
Some colleges affiliated to the Bangalore University are of the opinion that since some course are in heavy demand with very few seats the proposal for advanced admissions seemed feasible. Colleges which are doing the same for undergraduate and PUC courses are not handing over receipts and say that in case the student does not secure the required percentage to obtain the seat or even fails the amount received from the student will be refunded. Due to which the department officials cannot take any coercive steps against such institutions as there are no documents on record which are exchanged as evidence of the advanced booking of the seat. Therefore due to absence of any documentary evidence no action has been leveled against the institutions so far.
