As any other major celebration in our lives, Mother’s Day happens to be one of those that are flooded each year with multiple movie releases, most of which aren’t even released exactly on Mother’s Day, but somewhere near that date.

Everything from major blockbusters to made-for-tv movies has had a major impact on the celebration with movies and quotes so memorable who have forever made it into popular culture and have become an intricate cog in this celebration.

It isn’t uncommon for many families to celebrate this day with a Mother’s Day Movie Marathon with some of the most famous movies to be about mothers and motherhood or send cards containing quotes from those famous movies to their loved ones.

Now, if you want to start a movie marathon tradition in your family to celebrate mother’s day, then surely you have come to the right place. When searching for some of the best movies to watch during this special day you don’t necessarily have to look for words like “miracles” or “Mother’s Day” in the title, there are some pretty iconic mother figure roles in movies whose titles have anything to do with being a mother.

Starting off this list is Akeelah and the Bee, starring Keke Palmer in the titular role and Angela Basset in the role of Akeelah’s mother. While Akeelah happens to be one of the best spellers in her School and wishes to go on to compete professionally, everyone including her mother just wants her to keep her head down and do homework, all while being teased and bullied, but when Lawrence Fishburn makes his appearance as the doctor Joshua Larabee everything changes, not only he encourages Akeelah to pursuit her dreams he also helps her mother heals old wounds.

Then you have Brave, this Disney movie starring Princess Merida and Queen Elinor is a classic clash between a Mom and her Daughter as the two different personas collide over whether or not Merida should get married or not, with her mover turning into a bear do to a magic spell is up to Merida to protect her and ultimately save her, when in reality they both saved each other.

Steel Magnolias is one of the ultimate classic movies to watch on Mother’s Day, actually, it is very common to find it on any channel, leading up to or during the day. With an incredible cast including Dolly Parton, Olympia Dukakis, Daryl Hannah, Shirley MacLaine, Sally Field and Julia Roberts. The movie deals with a mother’s worst nightmare a child facing death through sickness.

Amongst the most memorable quotes from a Mother’s Day movie is one from Steel Magnolias “I find it amusing. Men are supposed to be made out of steel or something. I just sat there. I just held her hand. There was no noise, no tremble, just peace. Oh god. I realize as a woman how lucky I am. I was there when that wonderful creature drifted into my life and I was there when she drifted out. It was the most precious moment of my life.”
