How To Surprise Your Partner In A Long Distance Relationship

Being in a long-distance relationship is in no way an easy thing to do. It is, however, easier than before with all the technology at our disposal. You don’t have to wait days or weeks for your letter to be delivered, transportation is much easier than before, and so on. However, that has also made the long-distance relationship quite excitement-free. Waiting for a letter or a phone call was full of anticipation and it could come as a great, lovely surprise. Whereas nowadays, it’s expected for you to keep in touch all the time, and the excitement about hearing from or seeing your loved one has somewhat ceased.

Of course, we’re not saying long-distance relationships are boring, on the contrary, they are certainly not. For one, you don’t have to worry about becoming repetitive and visiting the same places every day, talking about the same stuff, and so on. The fact that you don’t see each other that often is what makes every meet so exciting and lovely. Your dates are never going to become repetitive and you don’t have to worry about falling into a rut.

We know that these relationships can become tough to handle and you might get emotional, you might miss your partner a lot, but, you must never be clingy or too desperate. You both have to be strong and accept the situation as it is. The bad energy is just going to drive you further apart and since you’re already pretty far apart, that wouldn’t be good, wouldn’t it? So, you know what you shouldn’t do, that’s great, but, what about the things you should do? How do you keep a long-distance relationship interesting and fun? Well, we are going to try and help you with that. Stay with us for a few more minutes and find out how you can surprise your partner in a long-distance relationship.

1. Make a video

It’s all about showing how much you care about your partner. Sure, you Face Time daily, you talk over the phone, exchange selfies, but we’re talking about something different. Make a video for your partner talking about how much you care about them, how much you miss them, love them, just show them how important they are to you. This video would be a modern-day equivalent of the handwritten letter in the 19th century. You can do this however you want, scrip the video any way you please. You may just sit in front of the camera and talk, you may record a message before you go to bed or right after you get up, telling them how they’re the first and last thing on your mind. Don’t worry about the concept too much, the intent is what is important. Your voice, your face, and the message is what is it’s going to make them happy, not the video quality.

2. Send them a gift

We tend to gift people with presents on their birthday, during holidays, on their anniversaries, or any other significant dates. When you’re in a ‘regular’ relationship, small gifts like a flower or a candy bar are common and are always something that’s going to make your partner smile. However, when you are far away, those are not that common. To be honest, spontaneous gifts like that are almost non-existent. Well, who’s to say that has to be like that? You can always find a way to gift your loved one something. Sure, you may not be there to deliver it yourself or to see their reaction (but that’s where the previous advice could come in handy).

Here’s an idea. You get them something like a long-distance bracelet, the gadget that vibrates when you touch it so your partner knows you’re thinking about them. Include a handwritten message in there, it’s always better to hand-write it than to print it. Maybe you won’t see their surprised face, but you’ll certainly feel their touch on your wrist when the put the bracelet on. Naturally, this isn’t the only gift you may send, you can send them candy, toys, flowers, whatever you want. If you can’t decide or think of something, there are more ideas here.

3. Send them a handwritten letter

There is just something beautiful and romantic about a handwritten letter. It’s a forgotten method, given the technology we have now, but that’s just what makes it great for a surprise. Imagine getting your mail, expecting nothing but the bills, and then you see the letter from the loved one. Just the thought of someone sitting and writing in their best possible handwriting, throwing away pages where they’ve made a mistake, telling you how much they love and miss you, is going to overwhelm you with emotions.

4. Surprise visit them

The greatest surprise and gift to your loved one is you. One thing you can always do is surprise them with an unexpected visit. You can either show up absolutely unexpected, whenever you feel like, or set a date and when then just show up a few days. They’ll be taken by surprise and you can have your romantic comedy moment. Can you imagine if someone would ring your doorbell right now, as you’re reading this, and it happens to be your boyfriend or a girlfriend? I’m positive there would be a few tears, some screaming, and a lot of hugs and kisses.

5. Send them food

Just because you can’t have dinner together, it doesn’t mean you can’t surprise them with a meal. A random delivery order can be a great way to surprise your loved one. Just order them whatever when you feel like they may be home and hungry. Pizza, burgers, guac – whatever they love. Just make sure you pay via the app, it wouldn’t be as sweet and thoughtful if they open the door and the delivery person hands them the check.

These are not the only ways to surprise your loved one. Imagination is the only thing you need when it comes to keeping the romance alive. Do whatever you seem fit, just show them you love them.
